This was a fight close to home with my best friend (my nan) being the one suffering with this disease.
I was the one that put their hand up to take her to the home when a spot finally opened up in a facility.
I honestly thought I would be fine because I knew it was the best thing for her.
That was one of the hardest things I have done.
I was crushed leaving her there, but that was the moment that ignited a fire within me.
That night I came home and researched all I could about Dementia and Alzheimer's.

You name it, I searched it.
It was that same night in December 2015 that I decided I needed to do something to help out.
4 months flew by, and sooner than a later I was commencing my Alzheimer's awareness journey.
To say it was eye opening is an understatement.
I cried every night out of fear of failing a cause so close to home, but as my partner said "being brave isn't about not being scared, its about being scared and doing it anyway".
I have written a short piece on my feelings and emotions, day by day on the Cape.
Cape to Cape.
A breakdown in few words
Day 1: Exhausting and Exciting
Day 2: Challenging and Discouraging
Day 3: Breathtaking and High-Spirited
Day 4: Uncomplicated and Pleasurable
Day 5: Unnerving and Frightening
Day 6: Friendly and Happily unexpected
Day 7: Both Grateful and Melancholy that it was over
I raised $3456.00 for Alzheimer's Australia and could not have been happier with the help and support I received from friends and family.
I met some amazing people on the Cape also who I would like to give a personal shout out to! You know who you are.
Dementia and Alzheimer's stink, but they more we learn and spread awareness, the more effective we will be in finding a cure.
