2016 RECAP

Well it's officially the new year now, and as I lay here on mark's balcony soaking in the last of the days rays, I can't help but feel grateful for 2016. Like every year there were some good time and there were some bad times.
I traveled, loved, lost, laughed, cried and had an all round excellent time.
So to pay tribute to this year, please see the below recap:

JANUARY
The smell of a new year fast approaching always brings a sense of excitement. Another chance to get it right!
Just prior to Christmas, I had been approved by the Alzheimer's society to complete the Cape to cape to help raise funds for their organisation, so I was excitedly putting together my campaign in the beginning of the year, along with a trip down south in a reconstructed shed with my closest friends bringing in the new year, shortly followed by our trip to Japan

FEBRUARY
The first two months of 2016 really flew by. Seeing all that Japan had to offer was really magic. We were  in Japan until the mid of February, however coming home though brought some tougher times for me and my family . We lost our beautiful dog jack tragically in a drowning and we had to suddenly sell our family home.
Jack was 17 years young and had spent his entire life with us under that roof

MARCH
March saw some happier days. I was training hard for the Cape to Cape and gathering supplies each month. I also took a little escape with mark down south and camped at the beautiful honey moon pools with some close friends

APRIL
The time had come to embark on my solo 7 day venture from Cape Naturalist to Cape Leeuwin in an effort to raise money for Alzheimer's research. That trip taught me a lot. I went through a range of emotions from complete fear to exhaustion, overall joy and complete loneliness. It opened me up and I now appreciate my home here in WA so much more. Such ruggered beauty. I raised just over $3450 and could not have been happier with my efforts and was so grateful for all the beautiful people I met on the track!

MAY
The middle of 2016 for me was my lull period. If last year was graph, my spikes would have been January - April, you would see a decrease around May - July, and then it picked up again August onwards.
May was the month that my Mum & Dad finally found a place to rent. The move was big, but the end result was bigger! Finally they could relax and enjoy themselves. We also celebrated the births of two very important people, my little brother Jean- luc and my partner Mark. Jean-luc got a Tokyo Treats box (awesome idea for anyone who loves Japan!) and Mark got a ticket to go skydiving in Busselton in August!

JUNE
This month I had been speaking to my dear friend Elly who moved over to Auckland, New Zealand just over a year ago, and we decided we should catch up. The planning for the big 2 weeks road trip around NZ's North Island was born!  Oh and we did have a couples dress up party where Mark and I dressed up as Jerry & Elaine from Seinfeld!

JULY
Another colder month than what we usually experience, but my plan to go to New Zealand was keeping me warm!
June and July are busy months for birthdays in my friend group, so we had a couple of birthdays, including my friend Bevan's 30th Surprise party

AUGUST
If we go back to that graph I was talking about earlier, this month would be where we would start to see a spike. Mark's skydiving ticket was booked for the first week of August, so we stayed down in Yallingyup for a nice little winter escape. But, the day he was set to jump was honestly apocalyptic! Dark storm clouds rolling in from the sea, with forked lightning bolts hitting the ground.
Clearly a "great" day to jump out of a plane! We ending up being put on a stand by list, just in case the weather changed. And to our surprise it did that afternoon! Mark had a great jump in the late afternoon overlooking the Busselton Jetty. I would highly recommend a jump down in Busselton. So scenic!
The end of the month was also exciting! My friend Raz and I were off to New Zealand to see Elly!

SEPTEMBER
New Zealand is amazing! Such an incredibly beautiful country. Spent two weeks over there end of August and through to the second week of September. See my New Zealand post for more details!

OCTOBER
Great month this one. Weather is getting warmer so people are planning more, which makes me a happy gal!
Had a great day/night out in the city for my dear friend Jacinta's birthday, where we checked out the Beauvine festival, $30 bucks for the day and you got 3 free samples from each stall! There were about 20 stalls also! I think you can use your imagination for how the day went haha.
And to make October even sweeter, my dear friend Tate came back to play for 2 weeks!

NOVEMBER
When you get down to this time of year, you start to feel that excitement again. Summer is just around the corner, which means Christmas is just around the corner and so is New Years Eve!
November is also my birthday, so I chose to take the day off work and take my beloved's (Mark, Indie & Tate) up to Lancelin for a sand boarding day, a pub lunch and then an Italian feast that night and my local Italian place, La Vela.

DECEMBER
Last month of the year. Work starts winding down. The city becomes a busy flurry of people trying to get last minute Christmas gifts, and the sun is definitely out! This month saw me having sevaral pre Christmas feasts, finishing work on the 22nd, doing the family thing on Christmas day (followed by our traditional Friend's Christmas), a trip up to Lancelin with Mark, and alot of beach time.

Thankyou 2016. I know alot of people hated you, but you were pretty good to me.
Make the most of 2017 everyone!

- Capri
